You may know Martina Topley-Bird from her work as a featured vocalist on several Tricky albums during the ’90s, when trip-hop was all the rage. She struck out on her own in 2003 with her Mercury Award nominated album Quixotic, and is following that up with a new release in early ’08. For the most part trip-hop is left behind in todays track, Shangri La, but you can hear it’s echos in the groove and torchy acoustic/electro instrumentation. These new tracks have a great deal of soul and style, and I would wager, Martina will make a splash when she hits the US live scene in support.
