Marcus Schmickler will team up with singer Julee Cruise once again for Pluramon’s fourth album, The Monstrous Surplus, due out October 22nd. You may have heard Julee’s work with collaborators David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti (she sang the iconic theme Falling for Twin Peaks, and a few other Lynch Badalamenti projects). She carries the over-50 pop musician torch with much the same class as Dusty Springfield, and she fits perfectly with Schmicklers shoegaze layers. A few tracks are below, as well as a link to myspace for more streaming.

Former Beta Band frontman and creative center Steve Mason will release his first full length under the moniker ‘Black Affair’ this month on UK’s V2 records. Streams and downloads have been trickling on and off his myspace page, including one I really like Japanese Happening. Todays side, Tak! Attack! shows his old hand at arcade beatbox, a good fit with his early fall tourmates New Young Pony Club. The full album drops October 22nd (in the UK), check out his Go! Team remix, and a link to more streaming below.

Frisco’s Deerhoof is offering a free mp3 album on their Kill Rockstars website. Speculation around is that it will not be available for long, so get there now to download. A small sample of the album is below, full of the unconventional.

Sweden’s italo-disco sweetheart Sally Shapiro will release her modern underground classic Disco Romance in North America this month through Paper Bag Records. The track He Keeps Me Alive will be one variation to the European version, also, two other new tracks are promised. Working with writer/producer Johan Agebjorn (see previous), Sally’s music has always reached out to the past. This song fits well in the original lineup and I would say of everything they have done together this is the most Flashdance-esque of the bunch; which from me is a strong endorsement.

Montreal/Chicago trio Letters Letters will release their first Album Oct. 12 through UK based Type Records. Want To is a playful song, a tease almost, like I’m being cooed from the dark of some roller-rink. She is talking to some dudes with their denim cuffed high. They have better glasses than me… but not much better.

I wasn’t surprised to find a Throwing Muses mention on Carol Bui’s website, it’s really one of the first things I thought of as soon as I heard todays side, “1”. Not that I would describe her songwriting as similar to Kristen Hersh of the ’90’s, but they are at times working from a similar no-frills rock environs. “1” can be downright hard, in the melodic sense; strong guitars and low strings to draw and fill out the lines.

Everyone Wore White is Carol’s second full length, and is out today on 54ยบ 40′ or Fight!
